Behind the Scenes: Chicken Processing – Pasture Posts #82

Here’s the weekly roundup from Watson Farms and your direct connection to your farmer. Enjoy the latest edition of Pasture Posts!

Last week we took you behind the scenes and showed you how we perform our Home Deliveries each week. We are continuing this behind-the-scenes series this week in showing you our chicken processing set up through a video.

This facility allows us to provide you and your family with quality pasture raised chicken. Come along as we show you around!

Insights from Abby

As you have seen if you follow us for very long, our kids participate a lot in various age-appropriate tasks on the farm. They love feeling like they are contributing and we are blessed to have their contributions.

We mentioned to Abby recently that she could summarize her weekly contributions, which we could then put in the newsletter. She loved the idea and jumped at the chance to write a summary of her activities this past week. Here it is in her words with some spelling corrections 😊 :

All through the week I’ve been working on the farm. On Sunday I did my afternoon chores after church which were helping wash eggs and taking care of the duck. On Monday I helped vacuum seal chickens and label and mark chicken for three days, and we did 446 chickens altogether. On Friday I went to Wild Hope Farm to pick up a produce box that you might have gotten on Saturday. And on Saturday I helped my family measure the farm store that you might buy from, and I put a water pipe under my house. And that’s what I did on the farm this week.

Product Spotlight

Speaking of chickens, we’ve got another great deal for you! We’re offering our very popular Little Chicken Bundle for 10% off the already discounted bundle price!

Like Abby said above, we did a lot of chicken processing this past week, so it’s a great time to stock up on our chicken.

And remember, truly pasture raised chicken should be on new grass each day to maximize foraging! We are diligent about these daily moves with our broiler chickens and you can taste the difference!

For some of our recommended products, check out our Featured Product Page.  You might find something that you didn’t even know we had!

Help us spread the word!

It’s now easier than ever to Give $15 and Get $15 through our Referral Program.  We don’t spend a lot of money of advertising, but rather we focus on producing products that people love and are willing to tell others about.  So we depend on word of mouth to find new customers and ultimately to heal more land.

So in an effort to streamline this process we have made it easier to tell others (via email, Facebook, or Twitter) about Watson Farms.  And it’s all automated on the backend, so you don’t have to rely on us to issue the store credits manually.  Just head over to our Referrals Page and start sharing!

We re-use packaging!

We’ve seen a good response to our efforts in re-using packaging! Thanks and keep it up.

You can help us reduce our carbon footprint by returning your CLEAN egg cartons and meat boxes.

The main reason that we switched to plastic egg cartons a while back was because they are so much more durable than paper which could only be used once.  They also protect the eggs much better!

So if you have some egg cartons or boxes to return, you can just place them on your porch on your home delivery day.  Farm pickup customers can, of course, drop them off when you come to pick up your new order.

***We can only re-use OUR cartons or boxes. Please re-use or recycle other boxes or egg cartons elsewhere.***

We redact your personal information found on your meat boxes when we re-use them, but feel free to redact to redact it yourself without damaging the box if you would like.

Thanks for helping us re-use our packaging!
