The Many Forms of Encouragement – Pasture Posts #67

Here’s the weekly roundup from Watson Farms and your direct connection to your farmer. Enjoy the latest edition of Pasture Posts!

For years, we have heard from our customers things like “Thank you for all you do” and “We really appreciate your hard work.” But if we’re not careful, as business owners we can let these praises fade into the background of our daily routines. So over the past couple months I’ve tried to make mental notes each time that I or one of our team members encounter a customer that offers some words of encouragement. I have to say I was a bit surprised at how many customers offered their glowing feedback in a given week.

It truly is extremely encouraging to know that you all put a high value on what we are trying to do. There have been many times over the past 15 years that these words of encouragement have come at the perfect time when finances were unsure, logistics were falling apart, animals were not performing, or weather was adverse.

These encouragements come in a variety of forms such as:

  • A hand written thank you note left for our delivery driver
  • Prayers for our farm
  • Your smiling children greeting us as we deliver your order.
  • You coming down your driveway to meet us as we deliver your order just to mention how thankful you are for what we’re doing
  • Suggestions for how we can do better
  • This list could go on and on…

So why is this the case when so many other businesses seem to struggle with customer satisfaction? And how can we have such loyal fans knowing that we have definitely made our share of mistakes?

Ultimately you can only answer that question the best, but maybe we can sort out a few things that are different between you and your farmer as opposed to you and your car dealer for example.

  • One contributing factor is that we don’t do a lot of advertising. Most customers find us as they are searching for something we provide instead of an ad showing up with a gimmick that entices them. I think this makes a tremendous difference in the customer-company relationship. We’re thankful that there are more people searching today for what we provide than there was 10 years ago.
  • Another factor is transparency. We want to give you the best view possible into the inner workings of our farm so that you can be confident that our protocols match what you value for your family. This builds trust between us and you which is good for any relationship.
  • Personal connection is another unique difference between Watson Farms and other companies. When you make a purchase through our website or at our farm store, you are taking an action that has a direct impact on our farm. Instead of spending your money with a grocery store that likely wouldn’t notice if you didn’t shop with them next time, you’re investing in a farm that appreciates every purchase you make, whether a dozen eggs or a whole beef.

One of the key points with this article is that when you invest with us, you become part of our team. You become a co-laborer in our land healing ministry. You become a key member of a community of thousands of families that have participated in the same mission of saving a family farm while producing nutrient-dense proteins from animals living in their natural environment. This partnership is the greatest encouragement that we can think of, and it causes us to become more committed to the mission with each opportunity that you give us to serve you.

Take a look at the photo below from this week with the sun setting over what was once a confinement poultry operation in the background, while our cattle herd moves into a new paddock in the foreground. This is a transition that we have worked toward for a long time, and it was only made possible by customers like you who decided to partner with us and provide us with the courage to make some bold changes.

Help us spread the word!

It’s now easier than ever to Give $15 and Get $15 through our Referral Program.  We don’t spend a lot of money of advertising, but rather we focus on producing products that people love and are willing to tell others about.  So we depend on word of mouth to find new customers and ultimately to heal more land.

So in an effort to streamline this process we have made it easier to tell others (via email, Facebook, or Twitter) about Watson Farms.  And it’s all automated on the backend, so you don’t have to rely on us to issue the store credits manually.  Just head over to our Referrals Page and start sharing!

We re-use packaging!

We’ve seen a good response to our efforts in re-using packaging! Thanks and keep it up.

You can help us reduce our carbon footprint by returning your CLEAN egg cartons and meat boxes.

The main reason that we switched to plastic egg cartons a while back was because they are so much more durable than paper which could only be used once.  They also protect the eggs much better!

So if you have some egg cartons or boxes to return, you can just place them on your porch on your home delivery day.  Farm pickup customers can, of course, drop them off when you come to pick up your new order.

***We can only re-use OUR cartons or boxes. Please re-use or recycle other boxes or egg cartons elsewhere.***

We redact your personal information found on your meat boxes when we re-use them, but feel free to redact to redact it yourself without damaging the box if you would like.

Thanks for helping us re-use our packaging!

Did you know that we have a webpage that displays all the reviews we have received?

Check it out!

Check out this ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review:

“This place is Brilliant! The best, most fresh pastured meats delivered to your door! We tried a small amount of the pork and beef a couple of weeks ago. It was outstanding! Today I received 1/4 of an entire pig! Yum! 30-40 pounds of mixed cuts and sausage, bacon, ribs and butts. Met the owner and Sam the new driver. Friendly, on time, you can’t go wrong here folks!”

We would greatly appreciate it if you would be kind enough to leave us a review.  It helps first-time customers purchase with confidence.

Thanks again for being partners in this endeavor of local, pasture-raised proteins that has truly transformed our farm.  We look forward to continuing this transition while serving you long into the future.

Sincerely,

The Watsons
