Spring is a good time to stock your freezer!

One of the first offerings that we ever sold back in 2007 was half and whole cows. This has been a very popular method that customers have used to stock their freezers year in and year out. Of course, it has become all the more popular in the last two years, and we don’t look for that trend to go away anytime soon.

We bring this topic up this week because as you have probably seen from some of our videos, we grow more grass in March, April, and May than any other time period during the year. This allows us to finish a relatively large number of cattle during these months, which makes it a great time to get on our waiting list since it is at its shortest right now!

And while we definitely try to stockpile as much product as possible here on the farm, current events cause “runs” on our supply at times, so we completely get it when customers prefer to have their stockpile in their own freezers. (If this is what you do, it’s a great idea to use a Temperature Monitor to help you make sure your freezer is operating properly.)

Over the years we noticed that most customers don’t deviate too far from what we call our Standard Cuts, so in an effort to simplify the process of purchasing beef and pork in bulk, we started offering our Standard Cut Bundles. With these bundles, you don’t have to get bogged down in selecting all the options that can accompany something like a whole cow. We have identified what the most popular specifications are and have offered these options pre-bundled for your convenience. You see exactly what you will be receiving for a pre-determined price. No surprises!

But for those who still wish to specify their cutting instructions we still offer that as well. These are what we call our Custom Options, and they are available as half or whole animals.

Many customers who purchase a half or whole animal for the first time need to know how much freezer space they will need. The general rule of thumb is 35-40 pounds of meat per cubic foot of freezer space. Chest freezers would be on the heavier side while upright freezers would hold less per cubic foot but your cuts will be more accessible. Predicting freezer space is another advantage that our Standard Cut Bundles have in that you will have a really good idea of the weight you will need to store. The amount you’ll bring home in a Custom order will vary some based on the size of the animal and your cutting instructions (i.e. how many bones you ordered).

So whether you are a perennial bulk customer or you just got a freezer and you want to stock it, now is a great time to take control of your family’s food supply while supporting a local, regenerative, pasture-based farm. Call or email us today!

Farm Day is Coming!

To see in-person how we manage our animals, make plans to join us for Farm Day!

We will be holding it on Saturday, April 30 from 10am – 2pm. This will be much like the last one we held in October. It was a great success and we hope this one will be the same.

We will be offering hay rides where we will show each group as many of the animals as possible. We love the discussions that break out on these hay rides and it re-assures us that our customers are the most-informed and enlightened people on the planet.

Vendors will be set up as well so that you can stock up on some locally produced arts, crafts, and other unique products. A food truck and coffee truck will also be on site!

We will start highlighting some of the vendors each week. This week we have:

White Wolf Rubs: they offer 6 different seasonings/rubs. These are the only seasonings we use now! There are no added preservatives!

Holly Penza will be here with her homemade bows, headbands and more!

Keep looking for more of our vendors next week!!

Help us spread the word!

It’s now easier than ever to Give $15 and Get $15 through our Referral Program.  We don’t spend a lot of money of advertising, but rather we focus on producing products that people love and are willing to tell others about.  So we depend on word of mouth to find new customers and ultimately to heal more land.

So in an effort to streamline this process we have made it easier to tell others (via email, Facebook, or Twitter) about Watson Farms.  And it’s all automated on the backend, so you don’t have to rely on us to issue the store credits manually.  Just head over to our Referrals Page and start sharing!

We re-use packaging!

We’ve seen a good response to our efforts in re-using packaging! Thanks and keep it up.

You can help us reduce our carbon footprint by returning your CLEAN egg cartons and meat boxes.

The main reason that we switched to plastic egg cartons a while back was because they are so much more durable than paper which could only be used once.  They also protect the eggs much better!

So if you have some egg cartons or boxes to return, you can just place them on your porch on your home delivery day.  Farm pickup customers can, of course, drop them off when you come to pick up your new order.

***We can only re-use OUR cartons or boxes. Please re-use or recycle other boxes or egg cartons elsewhere.***

We redact your personal information found on your meat boxes when we re-use them, but feel free to redact to redact it yourself without damaging the box if you would like.

Thanks for helping us re-use our packaging!

I can’t say enough great things about the products from Watson [Farms]. The quality is second to none, and my family has a hard time buying any meats from the grocery store because it is so good. Do yourself a favor and get one of their mixed boxes.

We would greatly appreciate it if you would be kind enough to leave us a review.  It helps first-time customers purchase with confidence.

Thanks again for being partners in this endeavor of local, pasture-raised proteins that has truly transformed our farm.  We look forward to continuing this transition while serving you long into the future.

Sincerely,

The Watsons
