Meet the Land-Healing Team Members! – Pasture Posts #65

Here’s the weekly roundup from Watson Farms and your direct connection to your farmer. Enjoy the latest edition of Pasture Posts!

With the exponential growth our farm has seen since 2019, you can imagine that our team has had to grow as well. This is definitely true as we have added at least 5 positions since then. With a vertically integrated farm like ours, these positions are very diverse ranging from delivery driver to order fulfillment specialist to administrative assistant. But no matter what their day-to-day tasks are, they are all helping to accomplish the goal of healing the land while serving you with nutrient dense meats and eggs produced with integrity.

We are very fortunate to have assembled a wonderful team and we wanted to take a moment to introduce you to some of those folks who are so instrumental in getting pasture-raised proteins in your hands.

The latest addition to the team is Sam Lozier who has a background on a family farm but now works in web development. He was itching to get out of the office a bit and we are helping to scratch that itch by hiring him to run a couple of our delivery routes each week. This is a big relief to us and he will be invaluable as we continue to serve more customers.

Another great asset to the team has been Cyndy Adkins who helps us out part time in the office. She performs the daily task of getting orders invoiced once they have been assembled by the fulfillment team. Sometimes the stack of packing lists can get pretty high, but she is well on her way to mastering this every important function. She will also be doing some customer service work as time allows.

Greg Bailey is our youngest non-family team member and plays a key role in order fulfillment as well as tackling any field production tasks that come up. This includes anything from grinding feed to chicken processing to managing layer chickens. He doesn’t mind long days (of which there have been plenty as of late) when his school schedule allows.

Walter Martinez fills an important roll as he manages many of the tasks in the field every day. His animal husbandry skills are evident as he works each day to make sure animals are comfortable, clean, well-fed and are in good overall health. He doesn’t shy away from the hard work of making sure that feed and water among other things are always where they need to be for different animal groups that are always moving. This is key to any farm that is centered around animals that are rotated continuously and Walter is one team member that helps set Watson Farms apart.

Mason Watts has worked with us in many different capacities over the past 6 years or so, and continues to do so today in a full time role. He is integral in managing order fulfillment and organizing our cold storage. He also fulfills orders daily and grinds almost all of our feeds in addition to pitching in wherever he’s needed in field production. Oh and by the way, he does all this while he works through a master’s program.

So there you have all the non-family team members who each play a critical role in providing you with pasture-raised proteins you can enjoy with confidence. Thanks to each of them for their hard work and dedication to serving families throughout the Carolinas and beyond.

Here’s what some other “team members” were up to one day as we moved them to their new salad bar. As our friend Joel Salatin puts it in his book The Marvelous Pigness of Pigs when we honor the abilities of our livestock by raising them in a natural environment, they become “co-laborers in our land-healing ministry.”

Product Spotlight

So here’s a little different Product Spotlight section that includes a product not sold by us, but is very useful to many of our customers. As we were in Sam’s Club the other day getting some water and Gatorade for the team members we were talking about above, we noticed that they often have freezers in stock which had been pretty hard to find in the past.

This one is a 9 cubic foot model which should easily hold a half beef with room to spare. They also have some 7 cubic foot models and some uprights. Lowes and Home Depot also have some in stock in our local area at last check.

If you do get a large enough freezer and would like to fill it, we would love to help you do that as we have done several times for other customers in the last week. We have quarterhalf, and whole cows in stock today.

If you’re looking to stock your freezer with pasture raised chicken, we can help with that too. We offer a Whole Broiler Bundle that contains 8 whole chickens at 50¢ off per pound. It’s like a permanent sale on chicken. And with just a little practice cutting up a chicken you can have cuts like boneless/skinless breasts for a great savings.

Help us spread the word!

It’s now easier than ever to Give $15 and Get $15 through our Referral Program.  We don’t spend a lot of money of advertising, but rather we focus on producing products that people love and are willing to tell others about.  So we depend on word of mouth to find new customers and ultimately to heal more land.

So in an effort to streamline this process we have made it easier to tell others (via email, Facebook, or Twitter) about Watson Farms.  And it’s all automated on the backend, so you don’t have to rely on us to issue the store credits manually.  Just head over to our Referrals Page and start sharing!

We re-use packaging!

We’ve seen a good response to our efforts in re-using packaging! Thanks and keep it up.

You can help us reduce our carbon footprint by returning your CLEAN egg cartons and meat boxes.

The main reason that we switched to plastic egg cartons a while back was because they are so much more durable than paper which could only be used once.  They also protect the eggs much better!

So if you have some egg cartons or boxes to return, you can just place them on your porch on your home delivery day.  Farm pickup customers can, of course, drop them off when you come to pick up your new order.

***We can only re-use OUR cartons or boxes. Please re-use or recycle other boxes or egg cartons elsewhere.***

We redact your personal information found on your meat boxes when we re-use them, but feel free to redact to redact it yourself without damaging the box if you would like.

Thanks for helping us re-use our packaging!

Did you know that we have a webpage that displays all the reviews we have received?

Check it out!

Check out this ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review:

We just ordered our 4th cow from Watson Farms. High in Omega 3, lean and good for your health! Local grass fed, grass finished beef born right on the farm. They rotate the cattle to new pastures every few days to make sure that they have the best grass possible. Interested in a tour of the farm? You can do that. You can submit a custom order cut your way OR you can by part or a while cow cut standard at a cost savings. They might even have beef available right away. They also sell eggs, chicken and pork, all raised right on the farm. This is a family run operation. Great People!

We would greatly appreciate it if you would be kind enough to leave us a review.  It helps first-time customers purchase with confidence.

Thanks again for being partners in this endeavor of local, pasture-raised proteins that has truly transformed our farm.  We look forward to continuing this transition while serving you long into the future.

Sincerely,

The Watsons
